Autonomic Nervous System Derangements

چکیده
Despite these findings, mostly in the cardiac, esophageal and colon tissue 5,14,15, no correlation exists between the intensity of neuronal destruction and dilation of the heart or other microscopic indices of myocarditis in the chronic phase14. Histopathologic foci of damaged nervous tissue are found in a diffuse and irregular distribution. Neuronal parasitism, with periganglionitis and degenerative abnormalities in Schwann cells and nervous fibers being prominent manifestations. Although the cardiac parasympathetic nervous structures seem to be more vulnerable, paravertebral sympathetic ganglia destruction has also been documented4. Autopsy studies in chagasic individuals who were asymptomatic during life and suffered from accidental death show that marked neuronal depopulation may be present in absence of any signs of cardiac disease14,16. Thus, some chagasic patients have marked cardiac autonomic denervation at an early stage in the natural history of the disease.

Autonomic Nervous System Dysfunction in Parkinson's Disease.
Autonomic nervous system (ANS) dysfunction is common in Parkinson's disease (PD), affects 70% to 80% of patients, and causes significant morbidity and discomfort. Autonomic nervous system dysfunction symptoms in PD include sexual dysfunction, swallowing and gastrointestinal disorders, bowel and bladder abnormalities, sleep disturbances, and derangements of cardiovascular regulation, particularl...

Automatic dysfunction may contribute to the hemodynamic disturbances in cirrhosis. Tests of autonomic function were performed in 31 patients with non-alcoholic cirrhosis and 30 healthy subjects. Patients were divided into 3 groups according to child- Pugh,s classification ( A.B.C). The patients with moderate and severe cirrhosis( child B,C) had significant parasympathetic disturbance ( in the v...
متن کاملThe spoon test: a simple bedside test for assessing sudomotor autonomic failure.
The efficacy of a new dual simple bedside test--the spoon test--in demonstrating sudomotor skin derangements was assessed. The results were compared with those defined by the quinizarine sweat test. The advantages and disadvantages of these two above and other known similar tests are discussed.

Derangements within autonomic nervous system take part in the natural history of cardiovascular disease. Current paper presents three categories of methods measuring autonomic status: direct methods (e.g. laboratory tests measuring circulating catecholamine levels or based on isotopes, microneurography), indirect methods applied at rest (e.g. analysis of heart rate variability, spectral and seq...

A plausible explanation for this pattern of autonomic nervous dysfunction is the presence of long axons in cardiac parasympathetic and peripheral sympathetic systems, which are relatively more sensitive to the metabolic derangements as compared to the relatively short axons in the cardiac sympathetic system. Although it has not yet been shown that the treatment of hyperglycaemia in Type 2 diabe...
